After a very successful tenure, Dr Mark Baxendale has stepped down as the Head of Condensed Matter Physics, due to too many other commitments. Dr William Gillin has now taken this on.

Maureen Willis, one of CMP's latest PhD students researching electron spin dynamics in organic semiconductors, won second prize in a departmental poster competion with a title "MUSR Technique". She won £100 and is pictured below with Sir Nick Montague, the judge of the competition.

The CMP group welcomes Dr. Kostya Trachenko, SEPnet lecturer in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics. Kostya is closely associated with the Thomas Young Centre, the London Centre for Theory and Simulation of Materials. Further details of his research will appear in due course.
