Our physics ambassadors are on hand to answer questions from undergraduate applicants. You might meet some of them at our open events and visit days.
Offer holders can also get in touch with our ambassadors through the dedicated offer holders' email for the "Physics Exchange". If you have an offer from the School of Physics and Astronomy and have not been contacted with details of the email address for the Physics Exchange, you can email physics@qmul.ac.uk to request details.
Check out the profiles for each of our ambassadors below to find out a bit more about their time as physics students.
Naomi Marchant
I'm a second year BSc Physics student. I live at home in North-West London and commute in to uni which I've found very easy.
I absolutely love my course and my modules. As a pure physics student I get to learn a variety of subjects but also have the opportunity to pick and choose some modules.
My favourite thing about studying physics at Queen Mary is being part of the Physics department. Everyone is so friendly and supportive which makes it a great atmosphere to work in.
Outside of university, I spend a lot of my time volunteering for a charity dedicated to helping children with life threatening illnesses and am also involved with the Jewish society at Queen Mary.
Honor Elliott
My decision to study physics was quite spontaneous after completing (the wrong) A Levels at college in Stamford and moving to London on my own as an au pair. I applied to a few universities but QM stood out due to its London location and offering a foundation year enabling me onto the Astrophysics BSc without a maths A Level.
I'm now in my second year of the physics course but third year at the university. I lived in halls in my foundation year, then rented on a huge boat in Barking, before buying my own narrowboat to live on in time for my third year, which I cruise around London’s waterways. My life pretty much exclusively revolves around my studies, boats, my dog and riding bikes (the absolute best way to get around London!).
The university awarded me with the Hemera scholarship, consisting of full fees covered and maintenance grants, aimed at prospective students who come from a background not typically associated with going to university. My spirit animal is a proton because I'm always positive.
Alex Dzitenovs
Hello everyone, my name is Alex Dzitenovs and I am on my third year of Theoretical Physics. I am originally from Latvia however I lived in the US for most of my life before coming here for university. One of my favourite bits of physics so far is Kaluza-Klein theory, which is the topic for my dissertation. When I am not in uni or doing coursework, I like to play guitar and read!
Sehher Tariq
Hello, my name is Sehher Tariq. I am currently in my 2nd year doing the Astrophysics MSci course at Queen Mary. I am originally from a small town near Manchester and had never been to London before coming to Queen Mary, so moving here was a very big step out of my comfort zone. Now, I’m living in East London with my flatmates from halls in the 1st year. This is my second year of being a Physics Student Ambassador and this is my first year of being a PASS (Peer Assisted Study Support) mentor. When I’m not studying, I still like to be a tourist and take long walks exploring different parts of London and searching for different things to do, such as going to comedy shows and going to markets.
Jake Pointing
I’m Jake, I’m on the second year of the Astrophysics course at Queen Mary. My favourite aspect of studying physics are the academics, they’re all so enthusiastic and engaged so you feel like you can approach them with questions any time. I’m from London so I’m really glad I could stay here for university; it’s got such an individual atmosphere here I don’t think I could live anywhere else. Outside of Physics, I play both Football and Rugby as well as following American Football, which keeps me occupied when I’m not on campus or doing coursework at home.
Karel Green
My name is Karel Green, I am a second year MSci Astrophysics Student. I find most fields in physics intriguing, fortunately QMUL offers a wide variety of modules and topics on all Physics courses, so if you decide to pick a specific type of physics for your degree, as I have, you won’t miss out.
In my spare time I like to read and listen to podcasts, this gives my mind a break from coursework and exams. Although I do like to stay up to date with the latest physics news and being a student member of the Institute of Physics allows me to get the Physics World magazine, which is always an exciting read.
Kathryn Coldham
I’m Kathryn Coldham, a 2nd year Physics MSci student at Queen Mary University of London and I live in Dagenham, Essex. Although I find all areas of physics intriguing, I would love to pursue a career in particle physics research and study the very building blocks of our universe. I do many things outside of university, including jujitsu, which I have been training in for ten years and have achieved my black belt.
