Entry Requirements

The School typically makes offers to applicants based on their achievement of certain grades at A-level (or equivalent qualifications). Entry requirements by subject type for the different programmes offered by the School are listed below.

BSc

A-level: grades ABB including grades AB in Physics and Mathematics in any order and a B in any other subject (excluding General Studies)

International Baccalaureate:  32 points overall, including 6,5,5 from three Higher Level subjects. This must include 6 in Higher Level Mathematics or Physics, with both subjects being taken at Higher Level.

RQF BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering: DDD overall including grades DDD in the following: Unit 1, Engineering Principles, Unit 7, Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Unit 8, Further Engineering Mathematics.

Where possible, we strongly advise applicants to also take Unit 28, Dynamic Mechanical Principles in Practice.

European and International Qualifications; specific entry requirements for students studying European and International qualifications can be found on our individual country pages. 

MSci

A-level: grades AAB including grades AA in Physics and Mathematics and a B in any other subject (excluding General Studies.)

International Baccalaureate:  34 points overall, including 6,6,5 from three Higher Level subjects. This must include a minimum of 6 in both Higher Level Mathematics and Higher Level Physics.

RQF BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering: DDD overall including grades DDD in the following: Unit 1, Engineering Principles, Unit 7, Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Unit 8, Further Engineering Mathematics.

Where possible, we strongly advise applicants to also take Unit 28, Dynamic Mechanical Principles in Practice. Please note, entry will normally only be permitted to the equivalent BSc. Applicants may apply to the respective BSc course and then transfer to the corresponding MSci, subject to successfully meeting the academic progression requirements and at the discretion of the academic school.

European and International Qualifications; specific entry requirements for students studying European and International qualifications can be found on our individual country pages. A-level: grades AAB including grades AA in Physics and Mathematics and a B in any other subject (excluding General Studies.)

Foundation Programme

A-level: grades CCC including Physics and Mathematics.

We can accept students without A-Levels in Maths and Physics, however, we require at least a GCSE in Maths at grade C and a GCSE in Science at C. Offers will then depend on the courses taken.

BTEC National Extended Diploma (RQF)(from 2016): applicants will be considered on a case by case basis. A typical offer will ask for MMM overall, and may specify individual grades in specific units.

AND

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (QCF from 2010) in Applied Science or Engineering with MMM. GCSE grade C in Mathematics and Science.
